The cleaning solution used in ultrasonic cleaning is a very important factor in the process.Ultrasonic Controls Consideration must be given to the base material of the item to avoid discoloration or corrosion.
Always err on the side of caution when immersing untried items in your ultrasonic cleaner to avoid damage. A presoak or rinse of heavily contaminated instruments may be required to reduce the ultrasonic cleaning time.
When commencing the operation of the ultrasonic cleaner it is critical to allow a few minutes for fresh fluids to degas. This improves the efficiency of the cleaning allowing a shorter immersion time.
The liquid level should never drop below 50mm from the ultrasonic cleaner tank bottom as the increase in fluid temperature as a result of a low operating depth can cause damage to the transducer bonding. Heated ultrasonic cleaners should always include a thermostat control with immersion type heaters avoided at all costs. A gradual increase in temperature as a result of the ultrasonic wave is normal in all cases. Heavy or sharp objects should never be allowed to rest on the bottom or sides of the chamber but should be contained in a basket or racking system. This item is supplied as standard with all Unisonics ultrasonic cleaners.
The transducer and ultrasonic tank are part of an oscillating system which needs to be free of any contact to perform at maximum working levels. Hot fluids should never be poured directly onto the ultrasonic cleaner tank bottom as damage to the transducer bonding medium will render the ultrasonic cleaner inefficient and unreliable. Conversely when the ultrasonic cleaner has been in use for a long period a 15 minute cooling period is required before introducing new fluid. This again is to avoid a hot/cold scenario between dissimilar materials.
Always keep your ultrasonic cleaner at a safe distance from sinks or water outlets to eliminate electrical breakdown. Always drain the basket or rack fully of fluid before extracting items from the ultrasonic cleaning chamber.
Take care when refilling the ultrasonic cleaner chamber not to allow excess spillage or splashing onto power mains outlets or timer controls.
Unwanted residue left after the cleaning process should always be rinsed or wiped clean from the internal ultrasonic cleaner tank to avoid corrosion on the tank surface. It only takes a small amount of moisture contamination on the power connections to cause an electrical failure.
Your Ultrasonic Cleaner should be serviced and have an efficiency test carried out periodically (annually) to ensure that it is cleaning to acceptable parameters.
An efficiency test is carried out using a cavitation meter which measures ultrasonic performance through the cleaning chamber and can pinpoint areas of inefficiency. An electrical tag & test service Girl service should also be undertaken in accordance with AS/NZS 3760:2003 including earth leakage testing.
An aluminum foil test is an easy and accurate way of measuring the overall performance level (see our Performance Testing page) and can be done in house.
